Celebrating 10 Years of the Chowdhury Center

CC 10th Anniversary poster

The Subir and Malini Chowdhury Center for Bangladesh Studies, housed in the Institute for South Asia Studies at UC Berkeley, is currently the only university center in North America focused on the study of Bangladesh. For the past decade, it has shaped and popularized the field of Bangladesh studies through innovative public programs, research awards, institutional partnerships, and experiential learning initiatives.

We are thrilled to mark the 10th Anniversary of the Chowdhury Center with a kick-off event on October 12, 2024, bringing together scholars and practitioners for an afternoon of conversations on ecological and architectural practices towards sustainable collective futures.

Considering Bangladesh simultaneously as a place and a node in global ecological flows, Building towards Justice foregrounds efforts to understand—and to help resolve—the challenges faced by the people of Bangladesh, as a result of climate change as well as the social, political, economic, and environmental contexts in which they live. We expect this event to be of interest to anyone concerned with the planetary climate crisis and attuned to the needs and dignity of the most marginalized members of any community.
